Project Length and Dates
A five month project, currently ongoing (in March 2005)
Project Description
- The children learn about all aspects of film making, from the start to the finish of the production, creating their overall schedule, script, storyboard, casting, lighting, camera, props etc and then finally the editing of the film.
- The children work together as a team and create all the aspects of the film and are the controlling factors as they are in charge. Each child has a particular crucial role to play and they all work together to make the production run smoothly.
- The production worked with Act 1 and in particular Brian McCollum to create the scripts and finalise all the cast via auditions.
- We are currently just about to start filming and hope the weather holds as a lot of the scenes are outside, fingers crossed for all
Impact / Project Outcomes
- The first film made by South Reading Play club won the Best Under 12 Animation in the UK First Light Film Awards.
- Project is currently ongoing so some of the aims are still to be achieved, however a lot have already been achieved and the film is on schedule, which is one of the key parts in film making otherwise you run out of budget!!!!
- We have so far been working with around ten children on each of the projects and they are all now heavily involved with the production.
- The children have learnt about the importance of getting things done on schedule and keeping to it, otherwise this will affect the next stage of the production
- It is also important for the children to realise and understand what working in a team means and understanding other people's views and respecting them as they would like them to be respected.
Problems Encountered and Lessons Learnt
- As we have already produced one film, certain obstacles had already been faced and therefore planned for when we applied for the funding. However as this is a dramatic film, which involves actors and actresses, new obstacles have had to be tackled. These have included the creation of the script from scratch, the problems of the amount of time with the children themselves and the actual filming itself and making sure it will look good on screen. These have slowly been rectified and as with all productions we hoping the end film will be excellent.
